Alternate Law & ADR Isolation
Quick Reference
You're looking at a preview. Two pages. The memory item sequence, the protection summary (what you keep, what you lose, what is degraded), the ADR isolation decision logic, the pitch and thrust table structure by flight phase, the continuation technique above and below FL250, and the complete sequence summary in one pass. Built from FCOM doctrine for pilots who need clarity before the pressure hits.

Golden Rule · FCOM PRO-ABN-NAV
"Alternate Law is degraded protections, not zero protections. Stabilize the aircraft first. Identify the failed source second. Isolate it third. The airplane still flies. The protections you have left are the ones you trained on — know exactly which ones you kept."
This principle governs every decision in the card. Sections 1–6 are the systematic execution of it.
Unreliable Speed — The Eight Steps
Immediate action sequence when safe conduct of flight is impacted. Execute in order — these establish your platform before any ADR isolation work begins.
| Step | Action | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | AP — OFF | Immediate |
| 2 | A/THR — OFF | Immediate |
| 3 | FD — OFF | Immediate |
| 4 | Set pitch & thrust per altitude band | See Section 4 |
| 5 | Maintain current configuration | CONF FULL → select CONF 3 |
| 6 | Speedbrakes — CHECK RETRACTED | Required for BUSS / pitch tables |
| 7 | Landing Gear — UP | Unless stabilized approach config |
| 8 | At/above MSA: level off for troubleshooting | Then proceed to ADR isolation |
Source: FCOM PRO-ABN-NAV + FCTM AO-034. Steps 1–3 are immediate memory items. Steps 4–8 establish the safe platform for ADR isolation. Trap: do not begin troubleshooting below a safe altitude if it will compromise flight-path control.
Alternate Law — What You Keep, What You Lose
Protection status in Alternate Law. Know exactly what remains, what degrades, and what is gone before you begin the descent. Labels shown here — full decision logic is in the PDF.
| Protection | Status in Alt Law |
|---|---|
| Load-factor limitation | ● REMAINS (similar to Normal Law) |
| Low-speed stability & stall warning | ● REMAINS |
| High-speed stability & overspeed warning | ● REMAINS |
| Alpha floor | ● LOST |
| Pitch attitude protection | ● LOST |
| High-speed protection (Mmo / Vmo) | ● LOST |
| Bank angle protection (beyond 45°) | ● DEGRADED |
Key: Alternate Law = degraded protections, NOT zero protections. Three remain. Three are lost. One degrades. Know which is which before you need it.
